TINEA VERSICOLOR : CAUSES , SYMPTOMS , PREVENTATION

 TINEA VERSICOLOR 

Tinea versicolor is a fungal skin infection . That caused by an overgrowth of yeast on your skin . Tinea versicolor isn't contagious , and most people  recover fully after treatment. Tinea versicolor is also called Pityriasis versicolor .



Tinea versicolor is a common fungal infection that causes discolored skin . People with tinea versicolor develop white, yellow , red, pink , or brown  spots . It's not harmful or contagious but can be mildly itchy . Tinea versicolor is most commonly found on shoulder , back and upper chest . Treat the conditon with topical or oral antifungal medications . Some treatments are available over the counter. Treatment, most people recover fully from tinea versicolor . 

WHAT DOES TINEA VERSICOLOR LOOK LIKE ?

Tinea versicolor can affect all skin colors differently . the overgrowth of fungus causes small, round patches of skin to get either lighter or darker than the surrounding skin. The spots  can appear white, pink , yellow , brown or light tan . On darker skin , tinea versicolor appears white or light tan . On lighter or paler skin, tinea versicolor looks light red or pink . Some patches or spots can become scaly and dry . The patches  might be more noticeable after sun exposure because the rest of your skin tans & the infected area  won't . This makes them stand out a little more . 



SYMPTOMS OF TINEA VERSICOLOR 

For most people , tinea versicolor causes mild symptoms . These may include :



- Skin discoloration , usually on your back , chest  and abdomen . Discolor patches will appear on your body with shades of pink , yellow , brown , tan or white . 

- Itching at or around areas of skin affected by tinea versicolor . 

- Excessive sweating .

- Patches of skin that may dry out and form scales . 

- Patches of skin that don't darken or tan in the sun . 


CAUSES OF TINEA VERSICOLOR 

An overgrowth of yeast on your skin surface causes tinea versicolor . this yeast thrives in warm , moist  and oily environments , causing it to grow out of control the symptoms of tinea versicolor . 



Some things that can  trigger the yeast to grow out of control are :

- Hormonal changes . 

-Weakened immune system . 

- Hot , humid weather .

- Sweating 

- Oily Skin 


HOW CAN I PREVENT TINEA VERSICOLOR ?

The yeast that causes this infection occurs naturally on your skin . This type of soap may help prevent future infections and yeast overgrowth . Healthcare provider may also recommend  using prescription s medications during summer months  when tinea versicolor is more likely to return . 

Some other things  you can do to lower your risk for repeat tinea versicolor infections are :

- Avoid excessive sweating , exposure to sunlight  and heat . 

- Wear  sunscreen or avoid sun exposure . 

- Wear loose - fitting , cotton cothing to reduce sweating . 


RISK FACTORS FOR DEVELOPING TINEA VERSICOLOR 

Higher risk for tinea versicolor  live in a hot, tropical climate or if you're young adult . This is because younger adults have changing hormones and increased oil production , both of which can contribute to tinea versicolor .
